A total of 169 boats participated in the tournament, which are four more than last year. Almost two-thirds returned with fish on the first day. The “D’César” returned with a 101 kilo marlin, and the “Andros” with a marlin weighing 113 kilos. On the second day of the competition no boats returned with a blue marlin, so the “Andros” retained first place winning prizes of a 4×4 light Chevy truck, two motorcycles and a sport watch with a value of $4,000 US; “D’César” retained second place winning a Chevy Tornado truck and two motorcycles, one for the captain and one for the mate; third, fourth and fifth won a Chevy truck for the owner of the boat and a motorcycle for the captain. Third place was won by “El Marlin Azul” of Chetumal and fourth by “La Rebe” of Isla Mujeres, and fifth place was taken by “Winter Depression” from Puerto Aventuras. Motor scooters were awarded for the largest fish of each species. “True North” (Cozumel) won for the largest sawfish, “Andros” won for the largest blue marlin, “Heavenly” (Cozumel) won for the largest white marlin, “David I” won for the largest tuna, “La Rebe” won for the largest Wahoo and “Pez Espada” won for the largest Mahi Mahi.source:cozumelinsider.com
